As part of our GLNPOCS work, EQM has conducted remediation work involving the removal of mercury, PCBs, PAHs, heavy metals, lead, petroleum, and other contaminants. This removal work has involved dewatering, onsite treatment, offsite disposal, cap/cover, and habitat restoration.
In particular, EQM is currently managing the mechanical dredging of Sheboygan Harbor in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, from the mouth of the Sheboygan River up to the Eighth Street Bridge (approximately 3,600 feet). This $20 million project involves the dredging and removal of PCB-contaminated sediments from the Sheboygan River Harbor that directly resulted in environmental, social, and economic enhancements of the Sheboygan River watershed and surrounding areas. An estimated 170,000 cy of shoaled material is being removed. The dredged material is treated with a drying reagent prior to being hauled in order to meet landfill disposal requirements. This dredging project was jointly funded by the Great Lakes National Program Office (GLNPO) and the County of Sheboygan Wisconsin. The County of Sheboygan WI has issued a separate contract to fund landfill disposal of 163,402 tons of solidified sediment.
