Dawn Miller gave a presentation at the Ohio Manufacturers Education Council 24th Annual Sustainability & EHS Symposium on March 24, 2015, concerning Sustainability Best Practices — Campus Sustainability, Boiler MACT Compliance & Pilot Project to Produce Bioenergy & Fertilizer from Food Waste.
Ms. Miller presented with Joseph Harrell, University of Cincinnati Assistant VP Utilities and Dr. Tim C. Keener, Director, Air Quality Management/Air Pollution Control Program College of Engineering and Applied Science. She presented information on UC’s strategy for complying with Boiler MACT for their utility boilers. Compliance options included switching from coal to renewable fuels; limited use of the coal-fired boilers; shutting down a coal-fired boiler; conversion of the coal-fired boiler to natural gas; and reduction of coal and renewable fuel HCl emissions through dry sorbent injection. Dr. Keener presented “A Pilot Study to Produce Bioenergy and Fertilizer from UC’s Food Waste.” Mr. Harrell provided information on the University’s energy needs and details of several renewable fuel projects at the University.
