Field Evaluations and Technical Support (FEATS) Contract

This contract includes evaluations that are primarily field studies, treatability studies, and technical assistance in support of evaluation of treatment technologies, processes, and systems related to hazardous and toxic wastes, and chemical and microbial contamination of various environmental matrices. Many of the field studies will be performed under the Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation (SITE) program, and will also include evaluations under the following programs: Superfund, Leaking Underground Storage Tanks (LUST), oil spills, brownfields, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), drinking water treatment, source water protection, and wet weather flows. The field studies may include interagency participation.

FEATS will also be employed to assist NRMRL in its extensive technical support to the USEPA regulatory office, state regulatory agencies, and others on an as-needed basis. This support includes expertise in new and existing treatment technologies, processes, and systems; measurement and monitoring procedures; and performance of treatability studies of these technologies.

Also included are:

  • Development, evaluation and/or critique of new measurement and monitoring systems and procedures capable of controlling the treatment technologies being evaluated.
  • Information transfer activities (workshops, training courses, demonstrations).
  • Sampling and analysis of contaminated and remediated media, including bioassays.
  • Assembling cost and operational data.
  • Development of community relations activities.
