Industrial Equipment Mfg.
Completed an applicability determination of Section 112(j) of the Clean Air Act (MACT Hammer) for an automotive facility in Indiana. Determined if the facility was an affected source required to file a Part 1 MACT application based on the facility’s potential to emit (PTE) HAP emissions and any of the existing emissions units belonging to source categories listed in the “List of Source Categories Affected by Section 112(j) MACT Hammer Date.” For affected sources, prepared Part 1 application and filed it with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
Completed the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) Emission Statement. Prepared complete air permit application for the construction of a new metal parts (counter weights) paint line, in compliance with IDEM.
Modified the Title V Operating Permit to allow for increased production capacity at the surface coating operations (paint booths).
Performed compliance testing to determine particulate emission levels of the exhaust of shot blast Unit No. U012.
Chassis Paint Booth Permit Modification
Prepared a permit application and supporting documentation for submittal to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ). The purpose of the project was to maximize shift production without triggering Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) review. Changes included increasing hourly production by increasing the speed of the chains, oven modifications, and potential changes to the annual particulate limit on the Chassis Booth. Evaluated volatile organic compound (VOC) and particulate matter emissions from painting.
Engineering, Permitting, and Installation of Palmer Bowlus Flume and Lead-In Pipe
Determined that the Palmer Bowlus flume was not providing accurate readings and investigated the cause. Performed a site survey to determine that the lead-in pipe to the flume was on too steep of a grade and that the flume had been incorrectly installed by others.
Performed engineering calculations to determine the size of the Palmer-Bowlus flume and the lead-in pipe size and slope; prepared engineering drawings and submittal to Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) for approval; procured the flume; subcontracted with a local firm for the excavation, replacement work, backfilling, and replacement of surface concrete; and coordinated all work with subcontractor.
